SMS Summer Reading and Service Activities

Happy Summer, Parents and Guardians!

Summer is an important time for students to keep reading. Numerous studies indicate students who don’t read or read infrequently during their summer vacation see their reading abilities stagnate or decline.

To keep your scholars engaged with reading, Sedgefield Middle is doing a summer reading activity. It’s simple! Follow the steps below to help keep your child reading:

1. Select a book from the suggested summer reading list OR scholars may read a book of their choice.
2. Answer our weekly book question posted each Monday to SMS social media sites.

Additionally, learning to lead and serve is a factor we strive to integrate at Sedgefield Middle. This summer, we are encouraging students to serve and connect within their community and city. Take photographs of the opportunity and reflect on why this project matters to your student and family.

Throughout the summer, as projects are completed, share a brief description and photos with Dr. Tornfelt, Ms. Eldridge or Mrs. Pierce. We will share with our community through social media outlets. During the back-to-school window, we will hold a Spartan Showcase to allow students to see all projects completed during the summer. If you have further questions do not hesitate to reach out to Dr. Tornfelt, Ms. Eldridge and/or Mrs. Pierce.
